After dining in one of the top Lyon gastronomic restaurants or in the friendly atmosphere of a more modest "bouchon", you'll find that night-time is the best moment to appreciate the magic and the lights of Lyon. Every evening, over 250 sites are lit up.

It must be said that Lyon has a special claim on light since, in a spontaneous act of popular fervour, the inhabitants lit thousands of candles and placed them in their windows to celebrate the Virgin Mary on December 8th, 1852. Since then, the December 8th illuminations attract roughly three million spectators each year, who come to "see the light".
